Title: more y-block fun
Post by: Swank on 2017-11-02 15:43
more good times,

how bad is this piston for a daily driver 292?
looks like somebody dropped something down the hole a good while back.  piston walls are not scraped up at all and valves are good.  I hit it with the paint eater to knock the carbon off, was completely covered before.  each dot is about the size of a BB.

let me know, ...run with it?, ...replace it?

WOW! I've seen a lot of piston damage over the years, never like that. Can you get out what looks like an embedded piece of something? All most looks like a ball bearing type check ball from a carb?
I wouldn't run it that way, total failure eventually will cost you much more.

Yep, carb check ball.   Tap-tapped it a bit, fell through to the crank.  Dont know how it was still in there.  Now looking for a piston.

I would not take a chance with re using that piston, if its cast (most likely is), good chance its cracked, also very good chance the ring lands got squished down, pinching the ring.

I have some used stock pistons in case you want one.   John
