Title: Fordomatic hard shift
Post by: dungbeetle07 on 2018-08-07 08:52
I have a5 57 4dr Fairlane w/272 2bbl and a fordomatic.  It seems to shift a bit late and hard into the high gear.  Are there any adjustments that can be made?  Thank you!

Try shortening or lengthening the throttle linkage on the side of the transmission. From what I remember there is a clevis type setup on the rear of the carburetor linkage, remove the
clevis pin and adjust the lengths up or down and road test.

Randy is right, the "kickdown" rod needs adjusted.  Yours is too long, it makes the transmission think you are applying more throttle than you are.  Shorten it, but make small adjustments.  One turn at a time gets noticeable results.   John

There is a complete adjustment procedure in the shop manual. follow it and the final pressure adjustment will not be necessary.
