Title: Electronic ignition
Post by: Dave.L 57 on 2019-05-23 11:57
:canada:I?m looking at putting an electronic ignition in my 223. I?m sure lots of you have done it. There are quite a few different ones to choose from but I would rather not clutter up the engine compartment  and keep it looking stock if I can. What?s the cleanest one that works well?

Iv'e used Pertronix with mixed results. Small unit that fits underneath the distributor cap in place of  points and only one extra wire. If you go that route make sure you get a compatible coil. Iv'e been thinking of swapping over from points to a Pertronix unit in my early Bronco but having driven it the last 2 years with points I'm really not seeing the need. If you get good quality points and condenser there really quite dependable.

I have a Pertronix distributor in my FE and a Pertronix coil with the decal removed. I did have a Pertronix conversion in a stock distributor at one time. The set works very well and looks stock except that the ballast resistor is not required. I am very satisfied with the brand.

I've run a Pertonix in every special interest vehicle i have owned... whether I was lucky or they are great units,.... I have had zero issues with any of them.Saying that.I always have a spare in the glove box.
