I'm looking to install 1955 truck headlight bezels on my 1957 Fairlane can anyone help? Ive seen many picture of this mod and also the 56 tuck mod,
You must mean 1956 F100 rings onto 1957 Ford fenders. It's a common subject. It's pretty straight forward. Take apart your headlights. You take the 56 ring, draw a circle with the ring amd them use tin snips about even few inches and you bend the in. You have to make a sheet metal space or weld in tanks from the rear to hold the old headlight bucket on. Mount the bucket and them mount the ring on the outside.
Here is the original article on the subject
Also check out FordBlueBloods build thread on the Ranchero. He did his I think with no welding?? Anyways, he's got pics. SOmebody else just asked about this a month or two ago, so there's a recent thread on it somewhere.
I did mine original with no welding, you just make little brackets to attach the bucket from behind. But you have to bend back the opening. It is cleaner if you do the welding style and add tabs to hold the brackets.
thank you for the info on 56 truck bezel on a 57 for Fairlane, ive also see what appears to be 55 truck bezels on a 57 Fairlane does anyone have info on this mod, its not the same but does clean up the bug
eye look. this mod looks clean and does not appear to require cutting the fender.
Ha o thought you meant 56- For the early style I would imagine you do it the same. Mount the bucket from the rear and they add mounts to the front for the ring. I think 53-55 have like two clips the ring latches onto and a screw mount on the bottom.
When I was building mine I cut 3/4" off the back of the bezel and folded it over and hammered flat to create the flange to mount it to the fender, you don't notice it unless your parked next to a stock 57.
Hey Rlibew...........My old memory finally kicked in and I remembered who you were. Been a long time since I've seen posts from you. Glad to see your still with the '57...or is this a different one? How's that 4.6 doing for ya? I've put 44000 miles on mine and love it. Please, let me know how it's been for you if you've been driving it. Morning coffee thread would be just fine.
57chero........I personally think you've got the best look. I never changed my stock "bugeyes", because I didn't mind them, but I always thought a shortened version would be better. Didn't that change the outside diameter though? Yours appear to blend in really well.
Looks like some posted a pic a couple
Hi Rich,.. it has been a long time since I've been on line. My car is done and. just a few mod left as I'm too low for my driveway and traction bars drag into cement, I will rise rear an inch. I have not done any work on it for a year as I was fighting knee injury and had a knee replacement Sept 15th.
I want to get the bugeye treatment but I'm very hesitant to cut into finder as this seems to be a no return mod. I've studied some pics on line and it look like guys us 55 bezels to clean the bugeye look and it look great to me.
As for driving I've only driven my car 3000 mile do to a failed alternator and belt issues. The belt issue has been alignment as I had to relocate alternator because the cobra motor has the alternator located at the lower location next to the 57 frame and there was not enough clearance.
Rich I can not figure out how to post picture and would sure like to share my 57 with club members
I guess since this is your thread, we won't have to worry about hijacking it. Posting pics is pretty easy, and I can lead you thru it IF you're not trying to post from your phone. That can be done also, but I'm lost there. So, are your pics on your computer? We all would really like to see what you've built!!
I'm not understanding how "raising the rear an inch" is going to change the height of the traction bars. My thinking......... raising the rear, we are talking body/frame in relation to the axle. Is the lowest point of the bars at the frame? If it's at the axle, it isn't going to change the bars height unless you put really tall tires on the back. ??
traction bars drag at frame mount forward of axle, I'm sure raising axle will give me the clearance I need, as for tires I'm running 275 15 60s and rear end housing has been narrow 2 1/8" each side for 4 1/4"over all and springs have been moved inward under frame. I have pics if I could post, maybe I should e mail them to you direct. Rich I'm tech challenge
Maybe my old mind is not thinking this thru correctly, but I believe the only way you can raise the axle is with bigger dia. tires. All the mods we do for ride height changes the frame and body height in relation to the axle, the axle always remains the same height, except for the mentioned tire dia's.
I'm tech challenged also, let me sleep on it.
