I bought a 57 that had the weather stripping out of the truck area and the area was preped for a new seal. I bought one but don't know if the weather strip glues to the lid or the body. Just looking I think it goes to the body. #2 I looks like there my have had caulking over the body seams. Is the area supposed to be caulked and if so what caulk? I do mechanics but I'm rapidly having to learn some bodywork with two of these now.
Here is a picture of where the seal is installed.

it is not caulk per se, it is seam sealer. everywhere on the car where there are overlapping metal joints they are sealed from moisture with "seam sealer".
The seal goes on the trunk lid, not the body.
Thank you all, can I buy seam sealer or can I use some kind of calk, like for windows or baths. I'm really close to having her back on the road, mechanics are done, engine fixed, new brakes, drums turned, spin on filter done, oil, lube, tires then off for minor body work and paint.
You can get seam sealer on the internet or from an automotive paint supplier. Comes in various types and cost.
I would NOT use caulk of any kind personally.
What Lynn said. Go to a paint supply shop and get the proper stuff. If you were doing a paint/stripdown, I wouldn't even use that. I just finished repairing a rust area in my trunk gutter that happened because the automotive seam sealer I used shrunk and cracked, letting water get in. I now use 3m panel bond for exterior painted body seams. Very expensive solution though.

I put mine on the trunk lid also.
can someone post a picture of the trunk seal installed please. I finally got stuff sealed and got the new gasket out. Looking at the picture glr7533 posted the seal looks different so I'm not sure how to orient it or if it's not the correct one. New style?
I couldn't get a good pic of mine because of my dark paint. Looking at the shape, it looks like just a quarter round, but that may be because the scoop is against the rise of the lid's inner support.
This is how I installed my seal. All the wires are for the trunk release both electric and manual. It's been decked.
Can't seem to post pictures.
These pics go with a reply from Terry Bly...aka terry 208
This is the seal they sent, looking at the end, the "L" faces what way?
If you zoom in on the first picture you can see how I installed mine.
There is no photo from you I looked to the tot. I found under your post "Can't seem to post pictures. "
