I should know this but.....
Anyone have any ideas of a possible replacement for a stock fuel sender for our 57's(or 58's)
I have stories of folks adapting a mid 60's or early 70's passenger car or pick up truck into our tanks.
Yes.I know I can buy repros..... but the off shore stuff is a waste of money....
NOS items seem to be out of the stratosphere.
Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.
I used a "universal" one from Tanks Inc. They have one for Fords in the correct ohm range. I tried several
and you are correct about the quality.

Like Lynn, I used a Tanks Inc unit. It was built much better than the aftermarket unit I had gotten elsewhere, but I recall having to change/use the mounting flange from my old one as the Tanks Inc unit I got had the wrong type. That may have been my error, I don't recall.

Rich...... in the past I used a Carpenters unit.... and the mounting flange was completely incorrect.it didn't fit....
I guess with the added Tariffs now.I really want to make sure something actually fits.
I did find a NOS unit. but I just didn't;t have $400 US plus exchange(40%) and now an added 25% Tariff
(no politics PLEASE)
So.. so see repros for about 100 bucks landed here..... I just want to make sure its will fit and work.
Man..... pre-covid these were $25 bucks max.
Jeff...PM in your box.
No idea if the 57 and 59 Fords cars use the same sender or not, but when I bought a new gas tank for my 59 2 door sedan, from Auto City Classic in Minnesota, I also ordered a new fuel level sending unit from them at the same time. My car has been on the road for 5 years now, and the gas gauge has worked properly all along. I have never ran the car out of gas to confirm where the gas drops to, but when I fill the tank, the gauge reads a bit past full, and it`s operation seems linear and consistent , and I rarely let the gas gauge drop much below 1/4 tank.
I just put one in from carpenter and all i had to do was bend the arm the float is on seems to work fine. :burnout: :burnout:
I bought the cheap replica on eBay. Adapted it to my wagon. It was the coupe one. It works albeit you need to film to and adjust the arm accordingly. Also make sure your wires and gauge are good. Would but again.
