Post by: dmkberger on 2025-05-30 23:05
Okay guys I am finally almost done with the build of my Ranchero and have an issue with the Front Sway Bar installation... How the heck do I install this thing, I am NOT able to figure out how to get the bar in place and bolt it to the Lower Control Arms... It has been TWELVE YEARS since I blew this thing apart and I'm STUMPED!
HELP HELP HELP, pictures or illistrations of Sway Bar Install would be WONDERFUL!!!
Please help the old guy finish this thing before I get too old to work on it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have attached a couple of pictures showing the stabilizer (sway bar) installation on my 57.  The instructions from the 57 Shop Manual are below:

Stabilizer Installation:
Connect the stabilizer to both lower arms.  On the conventional car, coat the parts with vegetable soap solution (I think I used Vaseline) and slide the ends of stabilizer into the outer bushings.  Install both inner bushing brackets and tighten all inner and outer brackets to 12-15 Ft-Lb.

Hopefully between the pictures and the description above you can get the stabilizer placed into position and then get the bushings and brackets installed.

Good Luck,
Dave

Hello  PITA to get everything centered. Lube bar as mentioned (above advice) is a must.

The above should help you unless it's an aftermarket (1 1/8") sway bar that mounts above the lower control arm.

hey folks. did my swaybar bushings on my edsel villager. found it much easier if you have weight on suspension. drove mine up on ramps. tried to install sway bar on bermuda resto project, front suspension hanging. angle of arms makes it pretty much impossible!
