Title: Lift gate and windshield install
Post by: johns2000 on 2025-06-01 11:47
Do you use an adhesive when installing the above mentioned or is the rubber seal over the flange enough??

Not an adhesive. Use a good sealant. The rubber is usually not enough by itself.

Timely I just pulled the back glass.  What a project, the rubber was harder than a brick, but now I know when I put it back together. :003:

Use the 3m bedding compound or same for the rubber seal on the glass
For the outer gate I used the seal that is meant for the courier you have to tape it in the follow up with 3m weatherstrip adhesive and retape.  I put the seal at the bottom center.   I find it seals but the  water runs around the edge to the bottom are where there should be a tube gutter before the tailgate edge.  Then the tailgate top need a good rubber (which the don't make. :120:). I can post pics if you need.

Picture usually help, thanks. I still have to clean the body surfaces and the glass before it goes back in.  I have the new seal and was going to go to U-Tube university for information on how to.  Been doing mechanics years but I'm finding if I want to do these older vehicles I really need to learn at least some body work. I asked an old timer here and he told me to check out the rope trip.

Just an FYI.  These window seals can be put in without gluing and you can push the window out later if needed.  I have done it on one of my cars.  It works if you are painting stuff. Here is the old link to some posts I did of my seals https://57fordsforever.com/smf/index.php?topic=9280.msg92966#msg92966
