Title: 3 on tree, downshifting
Post by: IceCreamMan on 2025-06-30 10:54
I have 3 on  the tree and an overdrive module. When I downshift there's no resistance no hold back. The car just idles down like it's in neutral. Give it throttle and it grabs and accelerates no problem. Clutch pedal feels good, engages smoothly around mid stroke. No noticeable slippage on take off. Any ideas? I'm worried my overdrive is slipping. No grinding.

Overdrives freewheel above and below certain speeds depending on year. Your overdrive is working fine.

Overdrive does not engage until about 31 mph and will freewheel below that speed.  If you want compression braking disengage the overdrive around town, it is actually designed for hiway use.  Under some conditions car will not hold when parked also so be sure to apply parking brake if leaving in overdrive all the time.

Something sheared off on the linkage that goes I to my transmission. The arm just flops with no resistance. It won't drop out of overdrive. I'll have to take it apart to fix it.
