i want my GEN light to work with an alternator. which ford alternator would i use. thanx in advance. Tobby
That is an "open door" question. Both the 2G and 3G will work as they have "built-in regulators that require excitement to operate. That excitement is provided by a +12V signal generally provided by an "idiot" light. Both the next examples mount up like the old 1G (found on everything from the mid 60s through the 80s), just need to put a V belt pully on them. The 2G can be sourced from an 87 Aerostar 3.0, it makes 75 - 80 amps at idle. The 3G can be sourced from a 94 Mustang 5.0 and will produce 130 amp.
