Title: ford 223 starter on 292 y block question
Post by: b.j.romer on 2025-09-01 20:29
I am swaping my 223 6 cylinder motor in my '57 ford ford for a 292 y block and need to know if the starter from the 6 cylinder will work on the 292 with the right bell housing and converter. any info is appreciated.
thanks Bill

Part number shows up as the same between the Yblock and 6.
The Yblock in shows up cheap on Amazon.  And is returnable.

I did a 4 year, body off frame, restoration of my 1956 Ford pickup.  I looked at getting my original starter rebuilt but wound up buying a brand new starter with drive from Ebay for just over $100.  I figured, it if didn't work, I could just get one of my old starters redone for a little more money.  The starter works flawlessly and looks just like the OE starter.  I was skeptical, but I am sold now on the new ones.
