anyone know if ford used a cable driven tach on other cars? seeking driven (on dist. end of cable) gear. have a 361 FE motor w/tach drive dist. thanks Gerald
no one out there familiar with mechanical tach drive? was edsel only one that used it? thanks Gerald
1955/1957 Thunderbirds used it also.
I am assuming you have the FE engine as only the Mercury based Edsels had the tach drive distributor. The FE distributor is a larger unit than the one used on the Thunderbirds (1955-57}. I had one of the FE tach drive distributors that was sent by mistake to me when I was accumulating the ones for the Thunderbird. I had it for 30+ years and realized that it was the wrong one. It was a rebuilt one and sold on Ebay for $400+. I was surprised it sold for that much. They must be pretty rare.
hey guys. thanks for the input. looked at the t-bird version, but is y-block. i have all the parts except the driven gear (goes on/in the dist. end of cable.) do not know if the gear is the same for FE vs Y-block. FE motor used in "small" Edsels (ranger/pacer/wagon on the ford chassis, while the "large" Edsels (corsair/citation) used Mercury based motors (410 cid on the merc. chassis) SO, looking for the driven gear. Tach appears to be an option across the entire line. Thanks Gerald
hey all. thanks for the input on the tach drive. more research needed, but appears mercury also had an application. on a different note, looked at my glovebox liner, decided to replace it. images found appear to be taller and narrower for 57 ford than 58 edsel. can anyone tell me the dimensions of the ford glovebox opening? thanks Gerald
