Title: swift-sure power brakes dual master cylinder
Post by: 58villager on 2025-10-31 11:24
Hey all. This question has probably been asked several times, but here goes. what master cylinder do i use with the swift-sure brake set up? had the afore mentioned 67/68 mustang m.c. left from another project. fits well, pushrod adjusted correctly, but pedal very long travel, and very soft. brakes are still drum/drum, fresh rebuild w/new hardware, wheel cyls, etc. system bled properly. current m.c. is 1" bore for manual drum/drum brakes. Thanks Gerald

I found and used the 1-1/8" bore,  dual from a Mustang GT about 1985. It's from the turbocharged GT.

From my understanding the original master is 1.25" bore
So I used the same size bore.

Note that swift sure doesn't feel like a modern power brake.
It's just a helper.

The original bore of the swift/sure power brakes on a 1957 Ford is ! 1/8".  For a while, no one was making rebuild kits for them.  There were available out of Brazil at one time but now are available on E-bay.

If you have your original master.  I would consider rebuilding it.  Also make sure you don't have a leak in the booster part.

I still have the single master on the 57 wagon. It works fine.

On the hardtop I have the newer stuff.  I never feel full comfortable with how the power feels.
