Title: Ford O Matic Trans
Post by: Edd505 on 2025-11-05 09:58
I have the transmission out for a major leak.  Turns out it was the torque converter O-ring.  I finally have the o-ring. What is the torque on the bolts that hold the twp piece converter together?  I have not been able to find that info in any of the manuals I have.

Found on line this look right?
Torque Converter Bolt Specifications for Ford-O-Matic
Torque Settings
Component   Torque Specification
Flex Plate Bolts   75-85 ft-lbs
Torque Converter Bolts   45 ft-lbs

I just picked up a vintage manual for the Ford-O-Matic. Lemme see if I can find the specs

I found it! I have a 50's vintage copy of "Thompson's Transmission Manual". I'd post a pic but it's copyrighted. Under "torque Converter - Assemble" there's a last paragraph "Install turbine hub inner thrust washer, turbine, hub outer washer & converter cover with new seal. Tighten cover attaching bolts to 25-28 ft-lbs torque".

Hope this helps

excellent that was just what I was looking for. How are you with 312 manifolds?  I now have 3 ECZ-9425-B manifolds 2 clearly marked 56 and one with a TeaPot.  I have a Holly off a 312 but the bolt pattern on the B is too narrow, I need a manifold with the wider pattern.  For the life of me I can not find a manifold that fits the carb.  The vin on my 57 says it was a 312 4V but some where in the last 68 years it was change to a 2V.  Trying to get it back to original. I have checked the engine and it is a 312 there is the round dot on the back of the crank.

Thank you it's in leak free and made it's first road trip around the block in over 40 years, mechanics are done? (I hope) now the interior and paint.
