Do you have a payment plan?
At the present time I seem to be $59,900.00 short.

The dang Christmas Holidays seem to get in the way.

   Donnie
I don't have any of that cash stuff.  Do you take wampum, beads, furs and shells?
Oh you would have to deliver it also with free gas for 1 year.
On second thought you can skip the free gas and delivery. I want to make it easy for you.
I was thinking that it would make a nice Christmas present for Jeff.  Jay Arrow

Couple of questions . . . Where are you located? What is your price range? Are you looking for a project or finished ride?

Ricky...

These is a nice 300 that pops up on Craigs list in the northern Oregon (Portland) area every now and again. I see the ad, it's there for a couple of weeks then it's gone. I keep thinking it's sold then in a couple of months it pops up again. It's a black 300 with a 4 speed and 460. I have a friend who really wants a '57 and took the time to drive up and look at it. He said it was very nice, but he is an older gentleman who thinks cars should still be selling in the $8k - $10k so he passed on it. I think they are asking around $22k. It isn't listed at the moment. If it's in your price range you might periodically check Craig's list in that area.

If you are looking for a project you might check this link: http://modesto.craigslist.org/cto/4726900578.html

There are a few other none 300 Fords listed in northern Oregon and southern Washington at the moment.

That car has been my screen saver for a few months.  I just started my 57 gasser project by buying some fenderwell headers.  I have to ask though, what is the reason for the disparity in the lower quarter panels?

Guys would radius the rear quarters to make room for a wider tire, and it was easier to change from street tires to race tires if you drove to the strip. HRD

Post by: Limey57 on 2014-12-16 16:05
I've seen so many cars over the years that have had badly done radiused arches, either done using (badly fitted) wheel arch repair panels from a different car or cut out with a kind of rounded off-square shape.  Not many get it "right" but yours sure is.

I agree those are about the nicest radiused arches I have seen on a 57 Ford, but I'm taking about the behind the wheel.  Each side is different, but it looks like it was done with a purpose in mind.

MT, what kind of fenderwell headers are you buying?  Are they prefabricated, (off the shelf) or will they have to be custom made?  I am really thinking about making my 57 Ranchero into a Gasser as I grew up in the 60's and still love that Gasser look.

Guy doesn't know the difference between a Custom 300 and a Fairlane. I thought it was a lot of rust for a California car then saw the Missouri license plates.. Looks exactly like my first 57 in 1966..

They are customs, originally on a 57 Ranchero.  I have never seen anything off-the-shelf.

Any chance your fab guy would/could produce similar patch panels with the arches?

...seen a step-by-step article in a magazine where they sectioned the quarter wheel openings to accept bigger tires on a early '60s Galaxie.  They cut the opening in three pieces and moved the front forward, the rear went rearward, threw the center piece away, and filled the center with a patch panel.  Ended up with a much bigger tire that could be removed be kept the original tear drop style.  Looked great and had everybody asking how they got the larger tires on that car.

I can't remember where I saw the article, and it was not '57 specific by any means, but a popular means of getting a nicely formed round wheel well opening was to discect 70's(?) Volvo front fenders. If you're a Hamb member, you might do a search there. That's gotta be a big job no matter how you look at it...not only the rear quarter, but reforming the inner wheel wells as well.

Hmm, I'm surprised nobody makes a universal wheel well arch.  There are a lot of cars getting radiused wheel wells.  I wonder if there is a quarter skin for a car with a round wheel well that would work.

MT, VOLVO 24O series front fenders are just what you need round, cheap and plentiful at most u-pull-it yards.

I've seen that thread with the Volvo fenders.  I don't what quite that much flare.  I just want to clean it up.  Besides there is no good Volvo sheetmetal in the junk yards in Northern Minnesota.  Early Mustang looks like it might work, and it would be easy to get a Mustang skin or patch panel.  Not sure if the cheater slicks would fit in there though?

FYI — Back when this thread started I posted that every now and then there is a Custom 300 that pops up on the Portland, Oregon Craig's list. Well, it's popped up again. From what I understand it's a very nice car.

You are right, there is no way you build that car for that price. I've seen it on Craig's list off and on for a couple of years now and I really don't understand why it hasn't sold.
