Yes.. I am really intrigued with early speed techniques...... I have a complete old 352 in the shop.... and yes.... there are far superior Ford engines...but this mans skills were amazing.

Cool story. Makes me think of Carol Shelby and his pioneer achievements. Thanks for sharing, always glad to see where a ford engine turns heads.

Very nice Jeff.  Just love the stories of "unheralded" speed warriors showing the big guys how it is done!  Brings to mind the "Swamp Fox" and the "Worlds Fastest Indian", two more of the early geniuses of the racing world.

Wirenut/Bill.......

I agree....I just love stories how the "little Guy" made stuff and had personal success.... now mind you...Karol was a very sharp guy...and so was Carrol Shelby....... but I love hearing all the stories like this.
I have a dislike for Modern Corporate racing today..... too Bloated....I watch a ton of early Nascar footage and am constantly amazed how little guys could compete back then.... Drag racing,....the same thing....
So when i hear stories of smart young men building ,engineering and designing a better automotive product in there single car Garage.... whether it be today or 50 years ago..... it ignites a spark.

Ok..I will step off the soap box

Hahahaha

Great reading Jeff, thank you. Since you got off your soap box I'll get on. I totally agree with bloated corporate racing, and it's not just autos, it's all professional sports. I was always a big fan of Nascar racing, I started attending in 1962 at Riverside and went to all the races there, Ontario, Phoenix, Vegas and finally gave it up. There is no room anymore for innovation, the tech Gestapos will get you :003:. But the dictators can change what ever rules they feel like, now Toyota can run the 2018 body, what the hell is that about?  :005:

The beginning of the end when NHRA sold PRO Bike, PRO Stock, Top Fuel and Funny Car to Wall Street.  For now, the rest of the NHRA classes, Sportsman Classes, continue in a somewhat traditional way.

I have an original copy of that Hot Rod Magazine Ford Performance Manual. Tons of good info there. I used it to set up my E setup back in 1965-66. Carb jeting was dead on per the manual. I used regular '56 Ford single 4 barrel carbs and it ran well. Years later I came up with a set of original E carbs and figured out that they had single 4 Barrel jets. I have picked up a couple of additional sets of E carbs and they all had the single 4 Barrel jets. Not sure if they were all that way but they were way too rich for the dual quads. Its possible that was the reason a lot of them did not run well and caught fire easily. I am curious if anyone else has run in to this?
