Have any of you guys ever relocated the tailgate handle of a Ranchero from outside to inside the bed?

I have a '57 Ranchero and I would like to place the handle inside the bed in order to clean up the lines of the tailgate on the outside.  I've seen this done to newer trucks but wasn't sure if there was a kit to it or if you have to reuse your old parts.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Take it apart and see. Maybe with a little welding etc you could rework the lever inside there.

I REMOVED THE HANDLE AND SMOOTHED THE TAIL GATE, WAS PLANNING TO REVERSE THE HANDLE AND OPEN IT FROM THE INSIDE. I WAS AT A ROD SHOW AND THER WAS A 56 PICK UP WITH A PAIR OF SMALL CHROME LATCHES THAT HOOK THE TAIL GATE TO THE BED. THAT IS WHAT I AM GOING TO USE NOW. IT LOOKS GOOD AND IS GOING TO SAVE A LOT OF WORK. HOPE THIS HELPS TOM

I hadn't thought about the small chrome latches, but I know what you are talking about.  A friend of mine has a '50 F1 and he has those latches on his.

thanks for the ideas guys!
