Windshield wiper ( cable & drum ) problem

Hello, Does anyone know any kind of a trick or easy method of putting the cables back on the drum? I looked at the service manual but I guess I'm getting dumb in my old age, cause it doesn't make any sense to me. Any help will be welcome as I have many hours on it now.

Thanks for the lead....great info.......especially the comment that the illustration in the Ford manual is WRONG.....thought I was getting senile when I couldn't make it work that way!
