Guys,
I am triing to tighten my harmonic balancer center bolt. The tourque spec is 90 ft lbs, but the crank turns before it torques out. What is a good way to hold the crank stationary while torqueing the center bolt?
Thanks,

If its a stick shift leave it in gear. An automatic try wedging a piece of wood between the crank and water pump pulleys.

Or, you could remove a spark plug place a piece of rope down cylinder and crank the engine around by hand to lock up the engine. That may also work.

If you do the rope thing, be sure it is on the comprssion stroke or you may bend a valve.  John

The best way to hold the crank is at the flywheel or torque convertor.  A large screwdriver will work or they make a tool to turn or hold the crank at the flywheel.
