the transmission was rebuilt and pro installed about 5 years ago.....  there are maybe 100 miles on it....im trying to get the car road ready....  here is the problem!

works great in reverse.....  and works in low!   but as soon as i go to drive it boggs down and wont shift.....

im wondering if there is a stuck valve or linkage problem or ????

any suggestions, short of pulling it out and having it gone trough   again!!
thanks

Given the very low mileage in 5 years, I would suggest a fluid change is probably a could place to start, making sure that the transmission has the correct amount of fluid.

yep thank you. should have mentioned the fluids were changed ...

Milo:

If you start the engine, then put it in drive, will the car move?  If it will, then the low band is not releasing after you manually engage it by putting the lever in low or reverse.  If it is still locked up, then the high clutches may not be releasing.  Either could be caused by valve issues,  I have also seen high clutch hubs with notches worn in them that the clutch teeth hang up on and fail to release.  Hope this helps.

This info is from memory and if not correct some one will correct it. But the linkage adjustment from trans to the throttle linkage on the intake manifold is critical. The linkage position controls the pressure in the trans which controls all shifting.
This may help, if I can explain it correctly...disconnect the trans rod from the throttle linkage...pull the rod upward till it hits its internal stop, adjust the clevis until it lines up with the throttle linkage and pin fits freely, then turn it an additional 3 turns counterclockwise to lengthen it and reattach to throttle lever..sorry I can remember more...haven't had a Fordomatic since 1969 in my 55 crown vic..this is why all my cars since then have been sticks  :003:. The only good thing about a Fordomatic is it has front and rear pumps which allow you to push start them if needed..

But I'm confused now, didn't you have a 351C motor? Is that mated to a Fordomatic and not a C4??
