Is a 57 and 58 4Dr the same frame?

model to model...a Custom 4 dr is not the same as a Fairlane 4 dr.

57-58 Frames, total 5 different.
a) 2&4 dr Customs
b) all wgns, Courier, Ranchero
c) converts
d) retracts
e) 2&4 dr Fairlanes & 500's

yeah, I know they had separate frames for each model. I just dont know if they changed in the years. However I called the guy, he says its a 4dr which should be the same as mine. But he said there was an " X " in the frame. I thought that was the retractable one, so I am a little leery of the 340 mile one way trip to get the wrong one. He has no pics because he lives down by me too.

If it has an "X" it's a convertible  or retractable frame. It will not work for a 4 door unless you change he bpdy mounts on the frame.

I considered using a convertible cross section to make my frame stronger.

I have a 4dr post.  This guy I found on craigslist,  has a 58 4dr. But then he says there is an X in the frame.  Which I knew there were different frames so I was surprised to hear that.  Because there shouldn't be one

58 has better steering box and upper a arm  bushings, otherwise the same.

Conv frame MAY work, Retract will not the body is longer. They are the only X-frames.

Thanks.  I am going to have to find out from this guy if there is an X in the frame.  That's what he thinks there is.  But I couldn't believe it myself on a 4 dr fairlane
