Steering column thread size?

The nut that retains the steering wheel is missing so I measured up the thread on the end of the inner column and it seemed to be 5/8" UNF so I bought a nut and it doesn't go on suggesting the thread isn't 5/8" UNF, can anyone confirm what it really is?

Thanks

Don't know the thread size, but  just having converted my box to the 62 Galaxie one, I know the steering shaft is 3/4 diameter.

I was just thinking, I have partial 57 steering shaft that I bought recently to have as a spare. It has the nut on it. If you can't find what you need, I could send the nut to you, as I would not need it.  Don

Gary...any chance the threads got damaged on the shaft from pulling ? What shaft are you using...the one from the '62 box?
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Its the original 57 shaft with the box cut off to fit the Wurth rack conversion. I'll have a closer look at the threads to check for damage.

I thought I had my old one somewhere that I could measure, but on first search I couldn't find it...it ain't that small!

I measured a spare nut at .572" inside diameter (it has to be 5/8" NF). I had trouble once because the threads on the column were messed up from a puller.

Thanks everyone, I measured it again and agree it is definitely 5/8 UNF but it looks like one of the threads near the top is scuffed so I'm going to try and get hold of a die (or a die nut) to sort the dodgy thread.
