leaf springs

hi all,  can anyone give me any advise on replacing the springs?,  i've reversed the shackles for now,  but know i need to have them changed,   thanks     jerry

You can buy new springs from McVeigh Truck Springs. 6 leaf springs for a station wagon is what I would use. They are Dayton #42-217 around $220 a pair.

I second the response by Lalessi1 McVeigh was great to work with they took really good care of me and my Ranch Wagon 6 leaf  springs are great.  I have the old ones but they were pretty much shot or sagging.

did the car stay level? or did it give you a slight rake using the wagon springs?

You can pull your springs and take them to most any spring shop for a re-arch.
They will replace the bushings and replace any broken leafs.
I needed 2" more height on my racecar for tire clearance so I took them to a shop and the guy didn't
even ask me what kind of car they were for!  Three days later I put them in and got exactly 2" for
$75.

     Reversing the shackles is not a good idea.   We did that a lot in the 50's and 50's.  It did raise the back of the cars giving them a rake.  The the bad thing happens.   The back of the leaf springs lose their upward arch and start drooping down.  So when all the smoke clears, you will have leaf springs that have an upward arch in the front and a downward arch in the rear like an S. 
     After that we had to go to the junk yard and spend 9 or 10 dollars for another set of good springs and all day Saturday putting then in on the street next to the sidewalk.

My RW springs were so bad my RW was butt sagging a little now it sets with a perfect rake.  For what it's worth the spring shop 2 miles from my house wanted more to re- arch my springs then the new set cost.

Sounds like that shop didn't want to be bothered.
Leafs aren't that hard to rebuild.
Toughest part is changing the front bushing. The
rest is fairly easy.

I had a bad experience with that shop in the past when I had them repair the airbags on my '62 greyhound bus RV.  I had the airbags x8 and they told me they were going to charge me $150 each since "They can't make money cooking someone Else's eggs" if it wasn't for the fact I could not take it anywhere else I had to eat their eggs.  $4400  later.
