grill fitment

when i put my grill in,to get it to fit at the top,the bolt holes are in too far[almost 3/4 inch]the front sheet metal was taken off as a assembly and from my memory it fit good before it was removed.has anyone run into this?the only option i see right now is to slot the grill bolt holes to make things fit
