Steering upgrades?

Ok! Every where I search for a steering upgrade the name Wurth comes up and for a couple years he's had some major problems and hasn't been as reliable as anyone can hope for. That being said what was everyone doing before Wurth and more importantly what was tried and didn't work? I 'm not looking to repeat anyone else's screw up but surely someone out there has an equally good solution.
