What does it look like when you finished?
Was it a custom spring? I tried both style 60's ford springs and nothing. I have spring rod to make a custom spring  but it can only get tension on the upper correctly not the lower.

If you have done this model and have access to your car please post a pic.

I did something similar, but I'm not sure it'll help. I had to go to a cable-actuated throttle. I used the donor Lincoln Mark VIII floating gas pedal and cable, but I wanted a traditional floor-mount look.
What may be the same approach is I had to build the Lincoln gas pedal bracket up to mate with the '57 firewall and get the pedal in the correct position. I then removed the pedal itself and replaced it with a curved spoon shape that rode on the back of the floor-mounted pedal (I used a ss '63 Galaxie pedal). Works great, looks like an ordinary floor mount. I'll see if I can find my posted info on it.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Thanks.  I will take a closer.  I think someone said they did this exact thing I want to do. I have a setup like your set up in my hard top Rich.

I think I used a pedal out of a 70s F-100, it dosent have a spring but it rocks about a 1/4" each way works great been installed for 12 years.

Abe.I had the same set up on my black 57 as 57chero posted.. but mine had a spring on it. and I was a Ford pic up truck unit(no idea the year)
I went back to an original pedal set up on both cars.....

the pedal backs are different on soem years, I got it to work, but I notice that on of the accelerator arms has a longer  - elongated mount that my wagon. so I cannot put that little extra lock bolt right there.

I had it mocked up with a spring, but getting in there upside-down is a bit hard. I really didnt want to pull the arm this week.

Its on there and in a sort of locked position, its just king like a spoon pedal at this point.

I have heavy rust in the mount are for the pedal and got rid of the small patch I had that would have been perfect for this senario.
