FYI, I am a novice and trying to run a 312 v8 57 ford fairlane 500

I recently installed the Pertronix electronic ignition with an updated pertronix coil and removed the ballast resistor per new-coil recommendations.  I am not sure if I need to keep the ballast resistor in place.  Actually, I am not having as much success with the new ignition update as I thought I would (no strong spark when testing the wires with a screwdriver against a ground).  I have read many posts that give different wiring scenarios but I'm still lost.   Any tips would help.

Are you sure your getting a good 12v? Are you using the low resistance coil? I have the same system and it works great!!

I have a brand new battery installed.  How do I check to make sure the ignitor is revieving the full 12V.
This is the coil I have as well.

Does it require the ballast resistor?
I've read many replies to other posts saying yes and no.  Should I just try it both ways and go with what works?  (sounds like a bad idea though)

I'm not sure which type of coil I have, but I do use the stock ballast resistor and it starts and runs flawlessly.
My engine is a bone stock 272.
