This was Pete Marcus' 57 several yrs ago. He's racing Louie Carnine
here. This Bad Boy was running low 8's many moons ago. (1990)
or so. Pete passed a few years back. I heard the car is in the
Pacific N.W.  It was called  "SHOWDOWN"

Pete gave me the inspiration to make my car faster :burnout:

That's a killer picture Ron.  I have an old PHR magazine with that car when Craig Cove still had it.  Had a cammer in it back then.  I always loved that old Ford, com the beginning.

James,
I didn't  know of somebody else racing it. It had a large 385
series engine at the end. Saw it FE powered mostly in the old days.

This was 70's or so at Big Willys' place in San Pedro Ca. I raced several
of the same events Pete did un until 1990 or so.

Craig Cove origially built it.  The 2nd pic, blue one, is what it looked like then.  He sold it to pete who put a new chassis and motor/trans in it and got a lot quicker.  The cammer was cool and powerful but there is just so much more technology for the 385 motors.  When pete bought the car, craig put the cammer in a 67 or68 mustang coups and ran it until he passed away.
Cool stuff there.  I love that pic of it in.blue.

When I get a free minute, I'll scan the article.  It was in pop hot ridding in '80 or so.

Thanks James,
Didn't know the full history. I'd enjoy the mag article. :unitedstates:
Pete's Daughter popped up on the HAMB a couple years ago.

Shoprat, I'm guessing Louie Carnine is Jay Carnine's brother. Jay was known as C9 over on the HAMB great all around lifelong hotrodder. If you want a taste of hotrodding in the 50-60s track down a copy of his book "California Hotrodder". Trust me you will not be disappointed.  Jay was the real deal counted him as a friend even though we never met face to face. Seriously missed by many.

After following your posts of this great drag racing car and the reference to C9 it sparked a possible memory so I checked my personal library and found California Hot Rodder. Read it years ago but will make a great Re read.
Info for anyone looking for a copy ISBN 0 949398 10 1 published 2000 by Graffiti Publications Pty. Ltd. Should get you there.

ZAPATO,
I too miss C-9. Enjoyed anything he posted about. I knew Louie
was his Brother. Didn't think anyone here knew of C-9.
I'll get a copy of his book. Thanks
Thanks Hogwagon for the info also.

Ron, I found one of the magazines, with the car as pictured with the Henry J, in red.  As soon as I locate the older one, (1980 sometime), I will scan both of them and maybe make an area for that kind of thing.  We have to be careful about posting articles from magazines, giving proper credit etc, as they are copyrighted items.  But they are definitely worth sharing.

Thanks James,
I'd like to see the article. There was a 57 Ranchero at OCIR
back in the 70's with a Cammer in it that ran real hard. It
was silver with chrome headlight rims ( :003:) The owner
Jim Lytle offered me the cammer for $1000.00. Oh, to be
young and broke. He pulled it out and put the low riser
back in it because he couldn't get it to hook and wouldn't
alter the car. I think his name was Jim Lytle.
My car was in the mid 12's then with a 390 and thought it
really hauled ass. :003:
