I would think Carpenter,Concourse etc.. When I redid the Ranchero last time they didn't
have new ones yet. Would hae been less money for a new one than redoing mine,

Jeff; sorry I missed you today. Got your message around 1:30 but I guess you were AWOL. You were nowhere to be found. I will try you on monday. This tank question I beleive I can answer. On ebay it appears the popular one for most fords is not made off shore, but guess what? It is made here in Quebec somewhere. I think Montreal. Just hold off on that one until you take that trip with me; I think Don has a source for them. Beleive it or not, without an inside track most of us have to import them from south of Buffalo.  Talk to you next week.   Gary

Jeff:

Is there a specific reason for wanting to replace your gas tank, i.e., rusted through, holes in the tank, etc.  I had my original tank redone by my radiator shop using the Gas Tank Renu process (cost about $150).  I think this process ends up by boiling out the tank then coating both inside and outside with some kind of rubber type of product.  Supposedly, makes the gas tank "better than new."  Mine has been on the road for about 10 years without a problem.  Just a thought, but yours may not be salvageable.

Those repro tanks from Concours and some other vendors are made in Canada, very nice.  I have one for my Custom, and except for the mass of crud in my OEM tank, they are identical.  Very good quality item.  Jeff, you should check around for where these are actually made, you should be able to get it duty free where you are, maybe even cheaper.  My tank doesnt have a  vendor name on it, but is stamped Product of Canada.

Well the reason Bob is .....I figured the old tank is prolly toast.Maybe it's not.... but i had a real bad time with an old tank in a Model A,,,,
it was coated by something(not by me) and i don't know which product ot service was used. But it was a B***H and played hacov(and destroyed) my 97's.
Anyhow,I just thought a new tank would be the right route.
I will examine the old thing soon as I get the car in my hands. My texas home boy is collecting and storing all my parts.
I do have a very good friend who has a rad shop..I will ask him about the procedure you speak of!

Thanks Bob!

Jeff if the tank has no leaks consider taking it to get boiled out, check for leaks again and if none go to a local metal shop and get a couple cups of phospheric (sp) acid, pour it in the tank and slush it around for a good half hour, dump it out, rinse with fresh water, dry and be happy.  The acid will seal off any rust (actually converts it to a different compound) and the bare steel in the tank will be pickled.  Just keep gas in the tank as you normally would and it should serve you well for years.  It has worked in my 36 Chevy's tank since 1980 with a little over 136K trouble free miles.

If you refurbish yours be sure to have a 3/8" pick up installed. I would just go with new.
I had no choice for the Ranchero at that time. I've got more in mine that a new one.
