Glovebox ?

Is there an after market glovebox that is not cardboard like material? I did a quick search on the forum but came up empty.

i believe all the reproduction glove boxes are made of fiber board ,just like the originals. Tom

You can take a fiberboard box and saturate it with fiberglass resin, let it harden. I wouldnt, but it can be reinforced that way. I was at the local pull-a-part last year, looking for a box for my old F100, and found a very cool box that someone had made from aluminum sheet. It was bent and folded just like the stock box, and the back side (end cap) was riveted to the box. It was a nice sturdy piece, but junk rattled around in it, made racket. I left it in the truck when I sold it, prob will last longer than the truck. The 57 box is a pretty simple piece, you should be able to duplicate it in aluminum if you're willing to listen to the rattles...

I agree with James a fiberglass reinforcement would seem to be a very good and quick way to obtain a more solid glovebox, expecially one without a rattle.

a metal glove box could always get lined with felt for very little "dinero". that would take care of the rattles.

Zap...before you go thru the trouble of making a glove box...decide on what you're gonna do for aftermarket air/heat if you're going that route. At least some of the Vintage Air setups won't leave you room for a glovebox of normal size, if any. Rich

Rich, here in the PNW one only really needs air about 10 days a year, rest of the time its doable w/out. I have that area pretty well figured out. I really could get by w/out a glove box but the OP (trent17) wants something better than a flimsy cardboard one, Metal one would be noisy but lining it with felt would surely take the tininess out of the box.
