tailgate

Got a question, I always thought the tailgates were inter-changeable from ranchero to wagon. Everyone that I have seen has the open top edge so you can use the top cap under the stainless trim for the ranchero or the piece for the wagon. The one I picked up today has a closed top edge with latches which is part of the tailgate skin so its wagon only?.

I dunno.  I have a wagon tailgate on my Ranchero, it has the top cap you described.  John

The Ranchero and wagon gate are the same.  The Ranchero gate has a piece that screws on top of what would be the wagon gate top and the stainless screws down on it.

I understand what both of you are saying and I agree but this one will not work on a ranchero it came off of a country sedan 4 dr. wgn. It is solid on top with no removeable cap, I have sold several tailgates in the past  and own a 57 ranchero my self and have never seen one like this.
