Fuel Capacity?

What's the capacity of the 57 gas tank?
Is the stock cap vented or non-vented? I was getting a lot of fumes that I'm guessing were coming from my cap which was drilled for a vent (can't find any problems with the vent line) and since the old gasket was wet from sloshing I made a new gasket but have left the cap with no vent hole. It seems better but I need to try it with a full tank again. What are you guys using?

Lorne....I believe all the '57's that have the filler neck behind the license plate use the vent pipe(which comes all the way from the side, and routed out above the filler neck), and a non-vented gas cap. That may vary depending on whether or not your tank is oem. Which gasket are you talking about that got wet?
Not sure what the capacity is..should be in the manual.

It was the cap gasket that was wet. I tried at first just sealing the drilled vent hole in the cap handle rivet but that didn't seem to work so I took the cap apart and made a new gasket and attached the handle so that it is non-vented.
Don't have a manual, I'm guessing 18-20 gal?
I can't find any leaks or weepers so I was assuming the fumes were coming back thru the trunk past the lid seal at the bottom. I tried extending the vent line that's behind the licence plate to below the bumper with just a piece of tubing but I think the gas smell isn't as noticeable now because the gas level is lower. Another thing on the list is to seal behing the door panels with plastic. There's nothing there behind the aluminum sheet door panels.
I'm filling up tomorrow again so I'll see what happens.

According to the original owners manual, passenger cars are 19 gallons. Couriers and wagons are 20 gallons.

Vented caps on all of them, or the wagons and couriers and rancheros?

Ranchero and wagons (all variations) and the retractable is a vented cap as well.
