Exhaust crossover

I'm looking at building a new exhaust for my 312 57, retaining the iron manifolds but considering removing the heat valve thing that diverts exhaust through the inlet manifold - a) for a cleaner look and b) to eliminate a potential leak path. I don't live in a very cold climate but I'm wondering if deleting this will cause any problems.
