Other than to heat up tires for a race, I don't get fixed burnouts! I've been drag racing and land speed racing for years . Is this a regional thing?? What's it about?

It's just cool to watch.  It ususally happens at larger shows.  This past year at Crusin the Coast, there were several..  Most of the people who compete in the burnout contests dont drag race, they just like to spin the tires.  With cops having the sense of humor they do, you cant really do that without a $168.50 price tag.  With a burnout contest, the object isnt to heat or clean the tires, but to burn them til they pop.  Hence the reason that most people you see in these contest will go to Pull A Part and get two junkyard and tires wheels to blow away.  Just harmless fun is all.
