Since Tom has lit a fire and renewed my interest in early vintage Stock car racing..I was looking at this post on a website to stock car racers?particularly about some thinking they found and bought a Fireball Roberts Modified sportsman 57 ford.
This article is 4 years old,and most likely some of you have seen it.But interesting short read(2 pages).
Holy Crap!
I would be so depressed at actually trying to restore this thing ,even if it was of significant historical value.

Doesn't seem to be any hint of old lettering on it, other than stp on the front. The South eastern Wisconsin short tracks have a dedicated following of vintage racecars. One guy and his son's have built several replica or tribute cars. They are currently building a custom 300, the base car is a total rustbucket that they are saving, right down to stamping out original floor pans. They have a facebook spread that showcases there metalworking skills, I'm going to try and share it with you guys, Mark

Some things are better off left alone. It must have some real emotional connections. I can relate , if that is the case.
