Hey guys I have the front end off and I keep looking at this huge eye sore of a heater that ford put on these cars. For those that have done away with this box, what do you use for heater now?

I was thinking a hot rod heater like this :

But am open to other options(even no water ones)

I plan on running a tilt front, and eliminating the water lines would be an extra bonus.

Vintage Air offers some great ac/heat combo units.

I installed this small one from PA auto, 59 bucks, just enough to keep the front glass clear of fogging up. HRD

From your question, it sounds like your wanting just heat, no air, but Bill echoed my thoughts in that the vast majority that go thru the trouble of changing the systems opt for the air/heat combos. I've got to believe your just heat options would be severly limited. Just a thought, but if you can't find a suitable heat only unit, maybe a combo unit could be installed only using the heat?? Funny, never thought of it before, but how often, if ever, have you heard someone talking about the efficiency of the heater in those combo units?...guys always talk about the cooling aspect.
Vintage air does make heat only units, You may be more apt to find someone who's used one in a hot rod.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

There is also a much smaller dealer installed version, or look at wrecking yards for small but efficient heaters in 70-80s era mini trucks. Datsun, Toyota and a few others come to mind as good options, as long as you're not offended by using offshore parts.

But look around the smaller Ford option was used on many other years and trucks also. They're not that rare. And everything  (other than hoses) is in the passenger compartment.

I have the Vintage Air heater only in mine and it is a small unit tucked way up under the dash. It has flexible ducts for defrost and works well but the blower is not very quiet. Has 2 rotary switches, 1 for 3 spd fan and one vacuum switch for heat or defrost.

Farm boys...LOL
410 Ranchero...as Lorne mentioned, you probably need defrost ducts...I don't believe that Speedway unit you linked to has that option
