Hi Guys, I have manual disc and rear drum on my 57. I'd like a little less pedal travel on it. Would a residual valve to the discs help this. I've bled the system several times and also tried a different M/C. My push rod also has no play in it. The pedal isn't bad but not as firm as it was with all drum brakes. Thanks for any info. Terry

Depending on which master cylinder you have there should be check valve(s) built in.
Usually residual check valves are used in drum brake applications or when you mount
The master lower than the calipers.

I have the same problem, Granada disc and drums on the rear. Pedal goes down about 2" and one pump brings it up to about 1" I don't know what master I have it was installed by the PO. I'm thinking of trying a 10lb residual on the rear line to the drums, I don't think the disc's needs it but don't know when that will happen. If it works for you please keep us informed..

Hello
I just did a disc brake conversion on my 57, disc front and drum rear. The master cylinder that works about the best is Raybestos Mc36251. that application is for 1967-1972 mustang power disc/drum.
I do not have power brakes but this particular master cylinder has the check valve built in for the rear. E.C.I. brake co recommends a proportioning valve for the front.
If you go to there web site they have all the info on this.
I am real pleased with the outcome on my big heavy Sunliner.
Bye the way really nice people to talk with, very knowledgeable.

Thanks for all the replies to my question. I don't know what my M/C is for sure, other than 1970s Ford. I'll let everyone know how I make out. Thanks Terry
