That looks like some kind of home made pinion snubber , slapped bar ,traction device for drag racing.
That thing looks like it would beat the floor pan to death

x2 on the snubber...wagon/ranchero springs with shock extensions(to help remove those big tires)...probably not original center section(different yoke than '57)...disc brakes nice touch

I can't figure it out.   Look at the angle of the shocks also.

Looks like a Rube Goldburg set up for a swaybar. Don't let this guy near your car.

Those little bias plys are cool. The homemade snubber not so much. If he used slicks with any kind of power it could tear the floor pan up or break the diff case.

That reminds me of an article I read about the great Don Garlits. He did a lot of experimenting.Like jacking the dragster up at the starting line, running in gear , and dropping it off the jacks when the light went green.Even Don laughs about that one .
