Just installed a 351w with a C4 into my custom 300 today, I have a pair of headman headers and they won't fit. They clear the steering box good but when turning the wheel the pitman arm hits, plus pass.side won't clear the starter. Any ideas on headers that will fit ie: shorties/block huggers ect. Thanks for the help..

i used headers for a 66 or 7 ,8, fairlane with 289 and c4 worked fine

Are those headers from  the 1966-68 fairlane full or shorties? Thanks for the info.

Rackmaster:

I had Doug's Headers build a set of his Tri-Y (long tube) headers for my 57's 351W.  He said he used the stock ones for a 65-6 Fairlane.  I'm not sure if they had to make any modifications.  I have the original steering box, not the smaller 58 one.  I've attached 3 pictures that hopefully will show the clearances involved (I had to shoot around a big Vacuum power brake booster so it is pretty hard to see).  Good luck.

PLEASE****Can anyone give me any model numbers for their headers used on 351w/c4 trans. I tried two sets from headman 88400 shorty and 88650 3/4 long. Neither set won't fit.The shorty fits drivers side nice but pass. side goes straight back with about 2 inches away from firewall.(to close for exhuast plus it would need about a 90 degree bend in the pipe not good). The 3/4 longs pass.side fits good but drivers side hits firewall. Any help would be good, This motor swap is driving me crazy. Thanks...

Here is pictures of my motor with the shorty's. As you can see passenger side fits real tight it goes straight back into firewall (Hedman #88400). Any help would be really appreciated.

Today I tried my 3rd set of hedman headers. They are model 88300 long headers not even close of fitting. I am now going crazy trying to find ones that will fit. Any help would be great. Thanks....

Im using the same headers that you are in your pictures,I shortened the bolt on collector reducer just enough to weld  on a shortened 45 degree elbow, it fits perfect angles down the same contour as the firewall with a good 1-1/4" space between the pipe and firewall then Ill have the exhaust shop take it from there.

what kind of motor mounts are you using?  That seems to be the problem.  Standard headers should fit this combo like they were made for each other.  When I put my last 57 together the first time, I used standard, cheapo Blackjack headers.  When I put the 427 Windsor with hiport heads together, I built a set, using Blackjack 351 C 4V headers to start, and then used a bunch of U-bends and custom flanges to mate up with the diagonal pattern on the Hi Port heads.  The bottom half of the headers fit perfect.  Check your motor mounts.  Something may be wrong there.

I used a set of shorty BBK headers and they work great. Look at some pic. I have under members rides Rocky mountain customs. There are pics. of the engine set in the frame and I will add some pics with the body set on. no clearance problems at all. There seems to be alot of room on the drivers side to run stock steering also. They are good headers and not a bad price. BBK-1511 in your summit catalog.
