:unitedstates:  Hi fellas,I just  became the owner of a 1990 5.0 H.O. motor with all the harness. The guy I got it from said it had the wiring to be hooked up to a 351..........I am not understanding. The motor was originally in a mustang but the guy I got it from had it in a truck.

What is needed to use it in a 1957?  Would it be similar to installing a 4.6?I know one of youu guys has done this allready.Thanks........racton

If he had it in a truck, I'm guessing the truck had a 351 and he used the 351 harness so the plugs would match up to the truck harness. All the sensors are the same and are in the same locations on both of the motors so it should be plug-n-play. The injectors on the Ford EFI are batched fired so firing order doesn't affect it( in other word, the injectors are wired the same on both the 5.0 & the 5.8 engines), all you really need is the computer for the engine being used.

:unitedstates:thankyou for that information Cobra Joe I feel i have made a good trade then and i may have a useful motor.Should I look for the same year Ford product with a blown 351?

The 5.0 fits very easy when converted to a front sump pan.   The Ford harness is fine, but there are some extra relays and circuts you don't need.  I've used the Ron Francis Harness and with A9P(Automatic) computer and it's very easy to plug it in and be running.   The 5.0 Is narrower than the 351, which is am advantage if you are going to use aftermarket Fox body headers.  Seems I used the 5.0 Fox motor mounts but swapped the sides to bring the motor ahead where it clears the pan and firewall well.

Ditto on what Pat said about Ron Francis/Detail Zone. They make life simple for us Ford guys who are not electronic savvy. The 5.0 is tons less complicated than the 4.6, so correspondingly, their kit for the 5.0 is much cheaper and less complicated than what I had to get for my 4.6. It may seem a bit pricey, but unless your an electronics guy, compare their pricing for the kit which allows  being able to do it yourself, to having to pay an auto electrician by the hour.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Rich and the others are dead on with respect to an after market harness!  They (after market harness guys) have done the research, designed the harness to be a four wire hook up, and are equipped to provide technical support should the inevitable "oops" happen.  Unless you have a thorough understanding of every input and output the computer has your time and money are best spent with a well supported after market harness!

I've never used the Ron Francis harness but have used plenty of the Ford Motorsport 5.0-5.8 and a couple of the Painless 5.0-5.8 (expensive) harness and they are simple to hook up, I think the Motorsport may be a little cheaper, but either way, they will all do the trick.

:unitedstates:  Thanks guys,if I use a Ron Francis kit can the set-up go in a 1957? Thanks I will check with Ron Francis............racton

You can put them in anything. You only have to hook up a few wires; if my memory serves me correctly, they are: 12V power source, ground, fuel pump, check engine light,12v cranking source, tachometer, and a constant 12v source during crank and run.
