I recently acquired an interior Day / Night mirror to use in my Ranchero, but the mirror itself was bad. The silver backing had dis -intergrated. I called local glass shops and all of them said the same thing, that it required special glass.Turns out that the special glass is special because it is thicker at the top than at the bottom.  I believe that is a prism shape.  I searched the internet and found a woman in Pennsylvania that would replace the glass for a tidy sum of $90.00! Ouch!
I told a friend of mine my predicament, and he told me to go to the local Pull-A-Part and get a mirror that could be cut down. So I made a pattern of the size of the glass I needed and went to Pull-A-Part ( Louisville KY.) and got a mirror from an Audi, for $6.00. Veterans get in Free! Took it home and cut it apart with a cut off wheel. Took the glass to a local glass shop and they cut it to fit for $18.00, and my mirror is now functional.
Hope this helps some others on the Forum

I had a similar experience.  I found a day night mirror on ebay.  it was NOS, but it had standard glass in it.  I bought a new day night mirror on ebay that had a larger head and I removed the glass from the new mirror and had it cut to fit my 57 day night mirror.  FYI, if you boil the mirror for about 10 min, the glass comes right off.  No need to use a cut off wheel.
