I would like to replace the teapot carb on my '56 Sunliner 312. I know the best thing is to use a '57 intake, carb and distributor, but I want to keep the intake and distributor and just replace the carb. It seems that a '56 Merc WCFB is a direct bolt on, Does anyone have any other possibilities. I don't want to rebuild and continue using the teapot. Thanks

My buddy has a 56 F100, it has a 292 with the small base intake like yours. We put a adapter on it that excepts the more popular wide base carbs, he went with the 500cfm Edelbrock and it runs great doesn't even need a choke fires right up and idles cold.

Thanks, is he using the stock '56 distributor that has a vacuum line from the carb ?

There is a port on the carb for the distributor's vacuum advance line.

If you replace the original H4000 carb with a later style carb other than either the H4000  or WCFB (w/ Spark Control) and not replace the Load-O-Matic DIST (using modified manifold vacuum), you will have incorrect vacuum advance. You would then need to go with a 57/ Dual Advance DIST.

Changing to a 57 up distributor is about the easiest and best upgrade you can make on an early Y-block.

You will see better performance and better gas mileage.

Good Luck,

Ron.
