Heater core

Have I read that the gasket on heater core valve leaks and that a sealant could be use instead of gasket. My valve leak pretty bad right at that gasket it's new but stiff   Could I use core from t bird and move valve to be in line .

The gasket is rubber and hardens after time.  I've had success with silicone sealer.  The sealing area is also easily distorted making it hard to make a good seal with the rubber gasket.
