install tailgate emblem

another dumb question guys. how do you get the old tailgate emblem out and a new one in. i don't want to wreck my new tailgate handle. well, like new anyway. i see where it looks like a metal piece is installed over it and maybe peened down. any help always appreciated.  thanks   skip

Grind off the heads, replace plastic, jb weld back in
