Is a single 6X9 Kenwood KFC6966S, 4 ohm speaker, a good replacement for the stock AM radio speaker?  I want to install a new speaker before installing the dash so I'm not lying on my back on the floor.  I'll probably be doing that enough w/o planning to.  Thanks

To be perfectly honest...ANY modern day speaker that fits in the dash will be a gigantic improvement over what was original equipment. And certainly anything that means not having to lay on your back...is a WIN!  :003:

Terry, you didn't mention the radio you are using with this speaker. Make sure the ohm rating for the speaker is compatible with the radio.............Make sure they like each other.

I am planning to use the stock radio, for now.  I want the dash to appear stock but may install a FM/AM radio in the jockey box at some point.

If I remember, the original speaker is not a 6x9 but it will work but you will have to drill holes in the speaker frame. I used a cheap speaker with a "voice cone" for the stock radio. I switched to a speaker with separate tweeters when I went to a stereo radio.

Sleep? I don't do much of that. 5 Hours is my norm. Wish it was more. But it is not.

Now that I think about it I bought a 5x7 and I had to drill the holes out to get it to fit.

I was fortunate that the Kenwood fit w/o modification but...I had to use hex nuts to secure it as the wing nuts wouldn't clear the body of the speaker.

I am in the process of assembling the dash and had to replace the wire harness as the original had the main heavy yellow wire, melted.  Now I cannot find the female connectors to hook up the blower switch.  While contemplating the wires, I have to paint the inserts which hold the air vent pulls.

Thanks to all for the information and assistance.
