In 2011 I bought a new F350 diesel pickup. Part of the service  contract was oil changes. And after all this time I still have them change my oil. I took it in yesterday to get the oil changed, and as I was waiting I walked across the street to the ACE Hardware, they had a line of O turn lawn mowers there so I looked them over. It's been a while since I bought a new mower so I was kind of shocked at the prices. The cheapest one on the line was about $4200.00. I thought you got to be kidding me.  I went back over to the Ford dealership and talked to a couple of their salesman. I said in 1968 I bought a new Galaxie XL 2 door hard top it had everything  except air. 390 4 barrel and C 6.The price was right at $3900.00, I traded in a 65 fairlane sport coupe, 289 high pro.  When Hugh was here a couple  mouths ago I showed him the paper work that I have hanging in my show room.  I know I live in the passed a lot but this time it really got me thinking, and as I see what is going on in todays world it will know doubt get worse.

Mu parents bought their first home in 1956...2000 sq ft, 2 car garage with double doors (two in front, two in back). Paid $13,000.00 for it. Last time it sold it went for over $750k...still looks really good...but seriously...3/4 of a million? YIKES!

But, what if someone had predicted that in the future you'd be able to buy a telephone/camera/movie camera/calculator/video display/world atlas, etc., carry it in your pocket and use it anywhere... priced less than that 8-track player option, with enough change left to pay for the oil change? lol

AND...that thing in your pocket would have more computing power than the rooms-zed computer that put man on the moon!

RICH MUISE

And don't forget we can ask Siri where the heck we're at when we get lost, or how far we are from where we want to be or are thinking of going to. Or track your wife to find out what store she's shopping at. I've used the built in level several times, and the compass.
Funny..some things you can't ask. Last year I couldn't remember Sachel Page's name, so I asked Siri what the name of the famous baseball pitcher was that played for the Negro Leagues in the 1920's. Her response: "I refuse to answer that question".

Yep, Alvin, I think many of us are trying to survive today's prices on yesterday's income. The guys on the Hamb were discussing trying to hire qualified help these days. A hot rod builder in Nebraska has been looking for a good welder and offering 50. an hour with no takers in the past year. Sheeeeet.......I managed a 60 man machine shop in Socal for 1/3 that.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Sirius can keep their Snortphone. I want the 1956 home for 13k !  :002:

Some times the "tech" is OK.  Example, I have developed a deep meaningful relationship with the lady in my dash board.  She tells me where to go and gets it right too.....come to think of it, so does my wife.....

I don't need tech for that.  Most people tell me where to go!

When my wife and I are on long road trips, I refer to the female voice on GPS as " the goddess".  But she is not always right and neither is my wife...

Mine is referred to as Mergatroid...she is on my phone...and she has her "questionable" moments at times as well...though she is generally correct about 95% of the time.

Mine doesn't listen as well as she should, she's always trying to route me her way. She can be a bit stubborn. I do find I need her more than I like to admit, she most always has my best interest in mind. I do not follow all of her commands or directives and sometimes I just tune her out since she's constantly repeating herself. I've grown fond of her and will continue to keep her in my life and as a copilot. I had one before that had a British accent, I occasionally think of her and miss her but she's in my past, so I just listen to my current American one and do what she says.
Sometimes I just have to get away from her, so I take my 57 for a cruise and just enjoy going where I want to go without being told when to turn, when to move over, when to turn around!'

Hmm, Wirenut it sounds like you need to spend more time in the 57, you are developing a relationship with an AI.  When I had my first GPS years ago, it had a female voice and I felt it was getting snarky when I would ignore it, so I have always turned off the voices ever since.

Couldn't resist!
