Tailpipe tip configuration

After searching the internet for hours I found a couple pictures that pretty definitively show that the tail pipe ends were cut at angle from the factory. The first picture of a Fairlane is from a Ford sales videNot a valid attachment ID. o and the other shows a Custom police car taken 1957. 
The tip looks to have a vertical section at top and then angles under at what looks about a 60 degree angle.

The angle cuts keep exhaust off the optional Delta Wing deflectors.
