Picked up some MERCURY script valve covers for an FE and these are twice as tall as the FORD covers. Just wondering if all MERC covers were like this?valve cover 003.jpg

I have a solid lifter cam and adjustable rockers that won't work with the regular FE 65 and up covers and I'm hoping these will work. I wasn't sure if all the MERC 390, 410, 428 had this same tall cover? Or why they made them so BIG ?

The tall "Mercury" script steel pentroof valve covers were used in 1965 & 66, not sure about 67, but the rounded covers with "Power by Ford" script , became the standard valve covers for most FE engines starting in 67. I have owned several sets of the tall covers, and have seen them on big Mercurys with 390 (2 and 4 barrel), 410 and 428s. They do work fun with adjustable rockers, I ran them on several 428s and the 427, in my Fairmont drag car for many years. As for WHY Ford made those covers so tall, I have no idea, maybe to just make the pricier Mercury models, appear to had larger or a special engine, compared to a Ford.

Previous 50s Fords include 57 Custom 4 door, 2 57 Ford Sedan Deliveries, 59  Country Sedan, and as a 9 year old, fell in love with the family 58 2 door Ranch Wagon.

Thank you, that was the info I was looking for. I had the same thought that they just wanted the engine to look bigger in the Merc.
