Hello Members  Having trouble not being able to get fuel(very little) out of outlet port (where fuel line attaches) I suspect there is a screen type filter that is plugged. I can get a little air though to hear it bubbling the gas. I can feed a small soft wire in about 7" feels like it bottoms out. Does anyone one know if there is a screen and how long pickup inside of tank is? Thanks

I put a new tank in mine many years ago and there was no screen, it was open to the tank, if its the original tank it could have a bunch crap plugging it up?

Just bought a tank and came with the pickup tube screen installed.

You need super long nose pliers to install it. Or tiny hands.  The filter is available on eBay.

Thanks for replies. As of now, plan on dropping tank and try to get a bore scope in sender or fill hole to see what it looks like. thinking, as it is a perfect original tank that still had 1978 gas in it, screen (if it has one) is gummed up, then will try strong solvent to dissolve gum. So that's the plan unless somebody has better idea. Abe didn't understand your comment.

Hello  Up date on fuel tank problem. Bore scoped it. Has a filter in tank, looks like small oil pump pickup in oil pan. guessing would say 2-3 inches in diameter,3/4-1 inch height with pick up tube going into side of it. Could not see bottom, filter has a support bracket to bottom of tank.. No way to get out as it was install before top of tank was welded on. Anyone know what kind solvent or cleaner that will cut gas gum. lacquer thinner? thanks

Hook an air hose to the fuel line and give it all the pressure.  Should blow the screen off the pickup tube.  You have a maintainable fuel up front at the fuel pump.

Best bet is to take it to a radiator shop and let them dip it. Then you will know if the tank is save-able or not (rust).

The old screens basically deteriorate if left with old gas over time do you ones to clean it all out.
I'm there is a way to install a new one.  I have super long pliers like 8+ inch nose that can hold the filter and put it on.

They would not sell the filter on its own if it were impossible.

Hello Members  Found blockage. I made the assumption that the filter screen was varnished over, my thinking  now is a assumption is a mother to a screwup.  Ran a lot of lacquer thru with no help. Pressure line with 120 psi air no help. finally got a small dia wire all the way thru. The filter is housing is 15 1/2" in from outside of tank that has outlet on left side of tanks. Thanks for comments

If you take it to a radiator shop the chances of it coming back swiss cheese are high.  I have heard they will tell you anything, but they overcook the thing.   "that's how we have always done em'".

Thanks  This tank was perfect, wasn't a spot of rust inside thats why I wanted to save it. Had B8xxxx part # stenciled on top so it might have been replaced at some point.

If a tank is dipped and comes out perforated, it is telling you something.

If the tank interior is not completely cleaned out (residue - varnish - water), ethanol laced gasoline will only loosen the coatings/deposits and the pump will pull it through the fuel system.

If it shows a PN of B8, it is a FORD service replacement tank.
