As I was reinstalling my parking brake I noticed that the cable was in pretty bad shape.  Sure enough, as soon as I pulled on it the cable broken where it comes out of bottom of the handle. I see you can buy the cable from a number of sources.  How do you remove the handle from the tube?  Does the stud on the side of the handle come out?  The shop manual doesn't cover this repair.

I don't know if it can be repaired or not, or if anyone is making a reproduction assembly, but there is a n.o.s. handle/cable assy for sale on ebay for 49.00 just in case
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

It can be done, I recently put a new cable in mine. I'll look it over and get back to you, unless someone else jumps in first. Mark

Figured it out.  There's a hole in the back of the tube where you can punch out the stud with a small punch.  Once the stud is out the handle comes right out and the new cable sits into a slot.  Piece of cake...  Got the dash back in, now moving on the the wiring harness.
